Ellar Softbox
Ellar Works
I developed a softbox for Ellar (ellargrids.com), a company specializing in accessories for Astera Light tubes, the industry standard in film set lighting. The goal was to design a softbox fitting that seamlessly attaches to the existing Ellar mounting system.
Design Requirements:
- Compatible with Ellar mount
- Maximum of three parts
- Auto-tensioning of softbox fabric
I began by analyzing the stretch properties of the softbox fabric, aiming for a design that eliminated the need for manual feeding into holders. The system should allow for quick setup, unfolding and attaching in a single fluid motion. The final design holds the fabric slightly stretched over the existing mounts, removing the need to insert or remove fabric manually.
